The letter C has multiple sounds:

• When placed before letter a, o or u, it sounds as in cat, cot or cut
• When placed before letter e, i or y, it sounds as in cent, cite or cycle

For our little beginners, it's best to start with the sound of C as \k\, as in cat or camel.
