Patience

In a meadow, there was a giant oak tree. It had several acorn nuts. One day, one of the nuts fell to the ground and started to grow. But, it grew very slowly. "I want to grow up fast like other plants" the seed complained. “I don’t want to take so long to grow". So the seed started to work hard, to grow big and strong. It grew a tough, dark brown trunk. It stretched its branches and spread its leaves to catch sunlight so it could get bigger. Many years passed and the seed had grown into a strong, beautiful oak tree.

Finally, the tree grew new nuts. The squirrels in the meadow and the animals who lived nearby came to pick and eat the nuts. One day, one of it's nut, fell onto the rich brown earth, and started to grow. It complained to the giant oak tree, "I want to grow up fast".

"Be patient, little seed", whispered the fine strong tree. “In time, only if you are patient, you will grow into a beautiful tree."

The 'u' family

Following our regular study pattern, we shall learn the words of the 'u' family.

Write down 'ub' in colored ink, on a flash card. Then, write down individual consonants as c, d, h, p, r, and t on separate flash cards. After doing so, place the 'c' flash card in font of the 'ub' card and read aloud the word, 'cub'.

c + ub = cub

Now, replace the 'd' flash card with the 'c' flash card to make the word 'cub'. Say it aloud several times, till your child is able to blend 'd' and 'ub' sounds to make word 'dub'.

d + ub = dub

At the end of study session, your child should be able to read these words with ease.

cub, dub, hub, pub, tub rub

bud, mud

Bebo And Her Manners

This is a story of Bebo, a small girl, who lives in a town called Mellow.

One day, Bebo forgets her manners at the door. She does not say “hello" anymore! She does not say “please” when she asks her mother to pass the pastries. She forgets to say “thank you" to her father, after he ties the shoe laces for her. She even pushes her brother Boo, and hurts his knee, and does not say “excuse me!”

So Bebo’s mother, makes her sit in a corner and says “It’s high time that you stop acting rude”. Mother explains, “People who care, talk nicely to each other; they use good manners with their father and mother. We love our family, and we care for others, so do not forget your manners even with others"

“I’m sorry,” said Bebo, with her face little sad. “But, now on, I will remember my manners wherever I go. I will be the most polite girl you know!”

Numbers

The basics of mathematics start with the learning and understanding of numbers. You may want to start teaching numbers when your child is about two years old.

Ways to help your child recognize numbers:

1) Prepare individual flash card for every number. Show different number flash cards everyday. Continue doing so till the child is able to recognize numbers with ease.

2) Let your child have fun in the kitchen by counting potatoes, spoons, cups etc.

3) Number posters come in a different varieties and sizes and are of great help. Stick number charts wherever you can point and show numbers frequently throughout day.

4) Rhymes, songs and videos appeal to children. Use these mediums to teach numbers.

5) Playing number games would not only help your child learn numbers easily but would also lead to a better understanding of numbers.

These methods will certainly help your child in recognition of numbers.

Boo and Bebo learn to forgive.

Bebo and Boo were best friends. Once while playing, they had a little quarrel. "I don’t want to play with you. You’re not my best friend anymore!" Boo told Bebo.

“You’re mean. You hurt my feeling" Bebo told Boo.

Hearing this, Boo walked away, leaving his best friend crying. Bebo walked back home all alone. But she was sad.

On her way back home, she thought about all the things that she enjoyed doing with Boo, like making sand castles on the beach, playing with the blocks, making a snow man and eating ice-cream. She thought of saying sorry to Boo and be best friends again.

When she got home, Boo was waiting for her. “I’m sorry, I was mean to you. You’re my best friend. I don’t want to hurt your feelings ever again,” Boo said.

“I’m so glad you said sorry,” said Bebo. “I am sorry too." And that’s how Bebo and Boo learned about forgiveness and started playing again.

The End.

Boo Learns About Honesty the Hard Way

Story for the Day:

Boo Learns About Honesty the Hard Way

One day, Boo’s friends asked him to play in a football game. “Do you know how to play?” they asked. “Sure. I’m great at football” said Boo.

But when the ball came to Boo, he didn’t know how to pass it to the other players. Boo ran up the football ground in the wrong direction. Then Boo kicked the ball into the wrong goal. He made a point for the other team! Boo’s friends lost the game because of Boo’s mistakes. "You let us down, Boo!” one of the players said. “You told us you were a great football player!”

Boo sat on the sidelines. He had lied to his friends. He didn’t know how to play football at all! Now his friends wouldn’t trust him anymore. If only he had told the truth.

Maybe it wasn’t too late. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t honest about being a great football player! The truth is, I’ve never played football before,” Boo told his friends. “It’s OK, Boo,” said Boo’s friends. “We’ll teach you how to play.”

And that’s when Boo learned that it was always better to be honest.

Print and Enjoy!

Boo learns to tell the Truth

As parents, it needs a lot of patience in teaching the right values to our little ones. Values of being fair, respectful, of sharing and caring, of being responsible etc. form the foundation of a child's character. Throughout the month of January, we shall be sharing a story each week, to help you reinforce the message in the story to your toddler in a meaningful way.

Story:

Boo Learns to Tell the Truth.

Once there was a boy named Boo, who liked to cook up stories. At times, he told tales about his encounters with ogres and champions, his fights with lions and tigers. In all his stories, Boo always came out to be the strongest and the bravest of all other children. If Boo knocked something over by chance, he would cook up a story about how someone attacked him, and how he fought his way out. Boo always did not tell the truth.

Boo’s friends never knew if his stories were real or not, so they stopped believing him and soon stopped playing with him.

One day, when Boo was coming to the school, a big street dog ran after him.

In the run, his bag, full of books, fell down on a puddle nearby.

It made him feel very sad and he started to cry.

His homework got stained. When he reached school and told his friends about what had happened, but nobody believed his story and all of his friends thought that he lied.

Then the teacher asked him to tell the true story.

The teacher said, “It’s important that you tell the truth, if you don’t want to lose the trust of your friends."

The teacher knew that today, Boo was not lying as she was standing on the opposite side of the street and had seen the entire event happening.

Boo learnt a lesson. He did not wish to lose his friends as he liked them, and so he decided to always tell the truth and never cook up stories.

Then onwards, he felt very good about himself.

Take care,
Happy New Year.
