The 'u' family

Following our regular study pattern, we shall learn the words of the 'u' family.

Write down 'ub' in colored ink, on a flash card. Then, write down individual consonants as c, d, h, p, r, and t on separate flash cards. After doing so, place the 'c' flash card in font of the 'ub' card and read aloud the word, 'cub'.

c + ub = cub

Now, replace the 'd' flash card with the 'c' flash card to make the word 'cub'. Say it aloud several times, till your child is able to blend 'd' and 'ub' sounds to make word 'dub'.

d + ub = dub

At the end of study session, your child should be able to read these words with ease.

bud, mud

bug, hug, rug, tug

gum

bun, fun, gun, run, sun

pup, cup

but, cut, hut, nut

bus
